Why You Should Always Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them

Why You Should Always Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them

1. Do you wash new clothes before wearing them?

How many times have you bought clothes and not washed them before wearing them?

If your answer is ‘often’, you are not alone.

In November 2019, 1000 Americans were surveyed about whether or not they wash their new clothes before wearing them for the first time. The findings showed that nearly half of Americans never wash their newly bought outerwear apparel before they wear them for the first time. (Tommy John, 2019)

According to the survey results,

  • 42% of Americans admit they never wash outerwear apparel, such as pants or t-shirts, before wearing them for the first time.
  • 36% of respondents claimed they only wash new clothes “sometimes”.
  • Only 22% of respondents said that they “always” wash their new clothes before wearing them.

It was also found that men were three times more likely than women to not wash their new clothes before wearing them for the first time.

Many of us wonder what the right thing to do is. Should we or should we not wash our new clothes before we wear them for the first time?

2. What do dermatologists or skin specialists say about the practice of washing new clothes before wearing them for the first time?

If you search the Internet or ask dermatologists whether it is advisable to wash new clothes before wearing them, the answer will be a firm ‘yes’. The reasons would include at least one of the following.

  1. A new garment can be home to germs depending on where it was made, how it was handled, who touched the clothes and how it was stored and transported.
  2. Several people might have tried the clothes on before you bought them. Dead skin cells or germs from their skin can affect you.
  3. Different chemicals are used to make a roll of fabric, and then it is usually dyed to give it a specific colour. All these chemicals can cause itching and redness when they come in contact with the skin.

While at a physical level, this is sound advice, most experts, when providing their view on the subject, only consider the physical aspects. They do not take into account the spiritual aspects of wearing new clothes before washing them, which could very well also have an impact on our physical and psychological states.

3. Experiment to study the effect of washing vs. not washing new clothes from a spiritual perspective

Using an aura and energy scanner known as the Universal Aura Scanner, we measured the subtle energy associated with seven new pieces of white cloth before and after washing them.

The Universal Aura Scanner

The Universal Aura Scanner is an instrument developed by Dr Mannem Murthy (a former nuclear scientist). It is used to measure the subtle energy (positive and negative) and the aura around any object (living or non-living).

Each cloth piece was of a different material; however, we kept the size of the cloth the same. All the cloth pieces chosen for this experiment were white in colour. The materials that were chosen for this experiment were as follows :

  1. Silk
  2. Cotton
  3. Satin
  4. Polyester
  5. Lace
  6. Georgette
  7. Lycra

The results showed that all the new pieces of cloth had negative vibrations associated with them. In the chart below, we have provided the extent of the negative auras detected in each of the cloth pieces. Except for silk, where a slight positive aura of 0.76 metres was detected, all the other materials had no positive aura before they were washed.

This is a chart showing the extent of the negative auras detected in new white unwashed pieces of cloth. These readings were taken by the Universal Aura Scanner (UAS)

These readings are an indication that marketplaces have higher levels of distressing energy, which often adversely influences products such as textiles and garments. Silk and cotton are usually materials that are considered positive from a spiritual standpoint. But even these materials can be affected by the environment in the shop.

Even if garments are spiritually positive, they cannot protect one spiritually if they themselves have been spiritually compromised and are covered with negative vibrations.

All the cloth pieces were then hand washed in the Spiritual Research Centre and Ashram and hung out to dry in the sun.

In the graphs below, we have shown how the subtle energy and the aura of each cloth piece changed before and after washing them. All readings of the auras shown below are in metres. The grey bar and the black bar are of negative auras Type 1 (known as IR) and Type 2 (known as UV), respectively. The positive aura is shown in orange bars. Please note that all the Y axes have been standardized at a maximum of 25 metres so that our readers can easily compare graphs.

As you can see from the charts above, after being washed, each piece of cloth gained positivity in its aura and there was a reduction of negativity. Silk and cotton lost all their negativity and thereafter only displayed a positive aura. These readings show the importance of washing new garments before wearing them. As only after washing them did the materials start to exhibit their true nature in terms of the spiritual vibrations being emitted from them. Before that, due to the negative covering acquired in the marketplace, it seemed that all of them had negative auras.

Key takeaways

  1. People wearing clothes without washing them will be affected by the negativity of the garments. This will depend on where the cloths/garments have been stored and how they have been handled.
  2. If a customer has tried on the clothes and happens to have severe spiritual distress or is possessed by negative energies, we can get affected by the negativity when we buy the same garment and wear it without washing it.
  3. Our research has shown that silk is the most spiritually pure (sattvik) material, followed by cotton. However, even though the material a garment is made of may be spiritually pure (sattvik), if the garment is not washed, a negative black covering (comprising of Raja and Tama subtle components) accumulates over it. Please read the article on Sattva, Raja and Tama – the three subtle components of the Universe. This black covering attracts negative energies. Therefore, the likelihood of attacks by negative energies on unwashed clothes is more. This also reduces the cloth’s ability to attract positive vibrations.
  4. The proportion of spiritually pure vibrations attracted towards silk and cotton is higher; hence, the proportion of negative energy attacks on them is lesser.
  5. As washed clothes (which are new) are not charged with any person’s subtle vibrations and are not soiled, their ability to attract spiritual purity (the Sattvacomponent) is high. Washing increases the capacity of the cloth to imbibe spiritually pure vibrations and enhances protection from attacks by negative energies. This is especially so in the case of spiritually purer materials such as silk and cotton.

4. The difference between washing white and black cloth

In the experiments above, silk and cotton stood out as materials that are positive in nature and hence emit positive vibrations. Such materials are useful for us as they provide the wearer with positivity and help to protect against attacks by negative energies. However, do all cotton cloths behave in the same spiritual way? For example, if we take a white cotton cloth and dye it black, will the vibrations remain positive? For this, we conducted another experiment using the UAS where we measured a black cotton cloth alongside the white cotton cloth to see if they emitted the same spiritual properties before and after washing. Both the black and the white cloth were procured from the same shop.

From the above chart, the UAS readings of the new black cloth were significantly more negative than the white cloth before washing. After washing both the cloths in the same manner, the negativity in the white cloth was removed, however, the negativity in the black cloth continued to persist, and there was only a small reduction (i.e., a 15% reduction) in its Type 2 negative aura.

Moreover, even after washing the black cloth, it did not acquire any positive aura. In contrast, after washing the white cotton cloth it recorded a positive aura of 18.75 metres. In short, both these cotton cloths showed very different spiritual characteristics and the only difference between them was their colour.

Key takeaways

  1. This experiment is an example of why one should avoid black-coloured clothes. Black-coloured clothing attracts and retains negative vibrations.
  2. The negativity present in the colour black overrides the positive effect of the cotton material. Cotton is positive by nature, but due to the colour black, this positivity is nullified.
  3. In the previous experiment, we saw that washing cloths helped to bring about a cleansing of the negative covering and generated positivity. But since the underlying negativity associated with the colour black is high, it cancels the effect of cleansing, and the negativity in the aura of the cloth remains largely the same.
  4. Needless to say, if we wear black, we will be affected by its negativity, and this will have a detrimental effect on our auras. Regular use of black clothing will invariably have an adverse cascading effect on our physical, psychological and spiritual states.

5. Conclusion

If you have ever wondered whether you should wash your new clothes before wearing them, the answer is yes. Apart from what experts have advised about the physical repercussions of not washing new clothes before wearing them, there are spiritual implications which can be just as damaging, if not more. We suggest adding a pinch of Holy Ash to the washing cycle as it will help to remove the negativity at a faster rate. One can acquire Holy ash to cleanse one’s new clothes by using SSRF incense sticks. Washing your new clothes along with applying a spiritual remedy helps to eliminate negativity and enables the clothes to attract more positivity.
