6.2 Answer
One feels pleasant vibrations from Figure B where the woman has her hair tied in a bun and unpleasant vibrations from Figure A where she has her hair open.
6.3 The Spiritual science behind the experiment
This experiment is significant as it highlights the importance for a woman of wearing a bun as opposed to leaving her hair open. Most women around the world leave their hair open. Yet however glamourous the hairstyle might be, by leaving her hair open, the vibrations overall from a woman’s hairstyle and the impact on her demeanour is unpleasant just as seen in the experiment.
From a spiritual perspective, hair can be disadvantageous to us. This is because hair and nails are relatively more Raja-Tama predominant (or spiritually impure) when compared to the rest of our body. As a result of this, negative energies who are also Raja-Tama predominant find it easier to attack us through our hair. This means that the way we manage and care for our hair can either aid in negative energies affecting us or it can minimise the risk of them attacking us from the spiritual dimension. The tips of a woman’s hair when exposed (as in the case of leaving one’s hair loose) become an entry point for negative vibrations. Wearing a bun prevents attacks by negative energies and attracts positive spiritual energy. Due to wearing a bun a woman experiences increased sharpness of intellect and behaves more maturely. Along with this her mind becomes more stable and there are more sāttvik thoughts.
The seekers (in the Spiritual Research Centre and Ashram) due to years of spiritual practice are far more sensitive to the subtle vibrations from various things. When we surveyed the opinions of a number of lady seekers at the Spiritual Research Centre and Ashram about how they feel when they leave their hair open as opposed to tied up in a bun, the responses were remarkably similar.
Aspect | Leaving hair loose (as a hairstyle) | Bun hairstyle |
---|---|---|
Stability of mind | Mind becomes fickle; frivolity increases | Mind becomes stable |
Focus of one\'s attention | Attention on self | Attention on God |
Extroversion vs Introversion1 | Extroversion1 | Introversion1 |
Thoughts | Increase making the mind restless | Reduce |
Decision making | Capacity reduces | Capacity increases |
Chanting | Unable to maintain concentration in chanting | Increase in concentration while chanting |
Ego | Increases | Decreases |
Possibility of being affected by negative energies and spiritual distress2 | Increases as much as 50% | Reduces to 10% |
Ability to accept Divine consciousness (Chaitanya)2 | 10% | 50% |
Note 1: The ability to be introverted and self-introspection are important aspects for spiritual growth. When one is extroverted one cannot grow spiritually and assess one’s personality defects and ego.
Note 2: The last two parameters are based on spiritual research findings and are not a part of the survey.
