6.3 The Spiritual science behind the experiment

According to modern sciences the smallest particles include electrons, protons, neutrons, mesons, gluons and quarks. However, according to the Spiritual science, all of creation is made up of even finer particles or components. These components are subtle in nature and cannot be seen with any instruments such as microscopes. These can only be perceived by our subtle sense organs or sixth sense (ESP).

These most subtle particles are known as the three subtle basic components (trigunas) which comprise of the following:

1. Sattva: Purity and knowledge

2. Raja: Action and passion

3. Tama: Ignorance and inertia

Each and every one of us is made up of these subtle basic components (gunas). However the proportion of each of the components varies across people and things. The subtle basic components (gunas) influence the behaviour of all living and non-living things.

Fresh flowers have the capacity to attract and transmit sattva frequencies. Hence one feels pleasant when looking at the picture of the fresh rose. When these flowers are affected by raja-tama components, they get spoilt or dried up at the physical level. In other words, dried up or spoilt flowers are raja-tama predominant. Since raja-tama frequencies give distressing experience one feels unpleasant vibrations from a dried up rose.

For a detailed explanation on the three subtle basic components please refer to the article: Sattva, Raja and Tama – The 3 subtle basic components of creation.

6.4 Practical application

When worshiping God and giving any offering, it is preferable to use fresh flowers, leaves, fruits etc. The freshness helps absorb and transmit the subtle (intangible) divine frequencies of the Divine Principle of God to which they are offered. The substances also should not be worm infested, rotten or damaged in any way.

Mechanism of how the fresh flowers, leaves and fruits function in a ritualistic worship

The oxygen in the fresh flowers, leaves and fruits helps absorb sattva frequencies and subtle divine frequencies of that Principle. When these substances are fresh there is more than 70% oxygen in them. For the smooth absorption of the sattvik and subtle divine frequencies, the oxygen level in the flowers, leaves or fruits should be at least 50%. When fresh flowers, leaves and fruits are offered to a Divine Principle, deity or God, the devotee is able to avail the benefit of the sattva and subtle divine frequencies to a large extent. This is by inhaling the fragrance of the flowers or consuming the fruit as holy sacrament. Thus fresh leaves, flowers and fruits are storehouses of the sattva components and subtle divine frequencies of the Divine Principle.
However dried up or spoilt flowers, leaves or fruits are predominantly raja and tama component.  At this stage, the oxygen and vital energy in them get below 50%.  Consequently their ability to absorb the sattva frequencies and subtle frequencies of the principle of the Divine form get reduced.  Thus when such substances are used in ritualistic worship as offerings to God, no one benefits from them.
