A pleasant sensation could be that of pleasant energy, cold, heat, pressure, peace, divine consciousness (chaitanya), Bliss, getting a vision of the object being read in pure, white light, etc. A distressing sensation could be that of distressing energy, cold, heat, headache, pressure, pain, difficulty in breathing, getting a vision of the object being read in dark, black tones, etc. One can also assess if one perceives these sensations in a particular part of the body or if it is a general feeling.

Answer
One feels more pleasant looking at figure B (the light colour sofa) than figure A (the dark colour sofa).
Spiritual principle behind the answer
Note: To better understand the explanation, we recommend that you read the article on the three subtle basic components.
The colour black emanates and attracts frequencies of the subtle basic tama component, which is one of the three subtle basic components. The subtle basic tama component reflects inertia and ignorance. It is for this reason, when we are exposed to the colour black or any colour which has high amounts of black in it, we feel unpleasant.
The colour white and shades of colour closer to white such as cream, yellow etc. emanate and attract frequencies of subtle basic sattva component. Since subtle basic sattva component reflects purity and knowledge, we feel pleasant when in contact with objects in white or lighter colours.
Practical application
The environment in which we live affects our life to a considerable extent. At a spiritual level, this effect is a function of the sum total of the subtle basic components in the environment around us. This means that the predominant subtle basic component arising out of the sum total of the subtle basic components in the various things in the environment decides its overall effect on us.
The more the proportion of subtle basic sattva component in the various objects in our immediate environment, the more we feel happy, proactive, energetic and optimistic in such an environment.
In contrast a predominance of basic subtle tama component has just the opposite effect. A tama environment fosters laziness, lack of interest and creativity, dissatisfaction, restlessness etc.
We can use this knowledge to our advantage by taking care to keep a predominance of subtle basic sattva component in our surroundings.
Colour is one of the factors that decides the sattvikta of an object. Thus when we are choosing between two things based on colour we can try and avoid or keep to a minimum the shades of black. By choosing lighter shades closer to white which are more sattvik, we make our homes and the environment more conducive to give us happiness.
In summary
Increased Sattva component → Increased experience of happiness and decrease in unhappiness
Increased Tama component → Increased experience of unhappiness and decrease in happiness
