1. Introduction to a comparative study of alternative therapies at the level of functional energy

In this article we compare the various alternative therapies at the level of functional energy. But let us first understand what we mean by this.

Everything that happens in the Universe, be it tangible or intangible (subtle) requires some energy. The energy in the Universe is of 3 types - Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti), Energy of Absolute Action (Kriyā-shakti) and the Energy of Absolute Knowledge (Dnyān-shakti). The corresponding subtle energies in us are Energy of sāttvik Mind (Manah-shakti), Energy of sāttvik Intellect (Ātma-shakti) and Energy of sāttvik Ego (Chit-shakti). In brief, the desire for all our actions is fuelled by the Energy of Absolute Will. The Energy of Absolute Action is required for the actual actions. The Energy of Absolute Knowledge comes into play for the spiritual cause-effect relation behind the actions.

Let us take an example to understand all this better.

Ryan is working at his desk on an important document. Suddenly he feels like going for a walk. He sets out and accidentally meets an old school friend who is just passing through that town. He gives Ryan information about his estranged brother.

Now, in the above incident:

  •  The desire to go for the walk is fuelled by the Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti).

  • The actual action of the walk is fuelled by the Energy of Absolute Action (Kriyā-shakti).

  •  Then there is the cause-effect relationship.

The cause behind Ryan going out is apparently his desire for a walk. However that is what we understand with our intellect. At the deepest, subtle, i.e. spiritual level it could be something else. In this example, Ryan was destined to meet this friend of his and thereby get to know the whereabouts of his brother. This deepest level is known as the spiritual cause-effect relationship. The Energy of Absolute Knowledge (Dnyān-shakti) fuels the spiritual cause-effect relationship.

The Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti) is the most inferior and Energy of Absolute Knowledge (Dnyān-shakti) is the most superior among the 3 energies. Let us see which energy fuels each of the alternative therapies. This will also give us an idea of their depth of action. The higher the energy used, deeper is the action and more is the benefit to the patient.

2. Allopathy

Allopathy

This therapy acts at the level of the Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti)

3. Yunani (Unani) medicine

Yunani (Unani) Medicine

This therapy also acts at the level of the Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti).

4. Acupressure

Acupressure

This therapy acts at the level of the Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti) and the Energy of Absolute Action (Kriyā-shakti). This means that it acts predominantly at the level of Ichhā-shakti and to a lesser extent at the level of Kriyā-shakti. Thus the level of action of this therapy is higher than the two earlier therapies.

5. Mudra

Mudras

This therapy acts at the level of the Energy of Absolute Action (Kriyā-shakti) and the Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti). This means that  action is predominantly at the level of Kriyā-shakti. Hence this therapy is superior to Acupressure therapy.

6. Homeopathy

Homeopathy

This therapy also acts at the level of the Energy of Absolute Action (Kriyā-shakti) and the Energy of Absolute Will (Ichhā-shakti).

7. Ayurveda

Ayurveda

This therapy acts at the level of the Energy of Absolute Action (Kriyā-shakti). Thus its action is at the most superior level. Hence the benefit from this therapy is the highest among the aforementioned alternative therapies.
