About Spiritual Research

Causes and treatment of Addictions

Abstract:

Spiritual research indicates that 96% of the causes of addictions are due to ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.) or departed ancestors. The seeds of addictions are introduced in the womb itself by ghosts. Due to the spiritual nature of the cause of addictions, only spiritual remedies can successfully alleviate addiction. A three-step spiritual treatment program has been suggested that will ensure minimal withdrawal symptoms.

1. What is the definition of addiction that SSRF subscribes to?

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual - IVIn this article, The Spiritual Science Research Foundation (SSRF) defines addiction as it is in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual - IV (DSM-IV). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), published by the American Psychiatric Association, is the handbook used most often in diagnosing mental disorders in the United States.

We have obtained a copy of the definition from the Hawaii Department of Health.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual - IV (DSM-IV) describes addiction as a maladaptive pattern of substance use, leading to clinically significant impairment or distress as manifested by three (or more) of the following, occurring at any time in the same 12-month period:

2. Addictions - a worldwide predicament

Addictions are a worldwide phenomenon adversely affecting the lives of millions across all geographical boundaries and cultures. At a personal level, people’s lives are destroyed by their addictions and their loved ones also suffer the trauma from the negative ripple effect. At the level of society, despite efforts from governments and care institutions, addictions on the whole drain a nation, reducing its effectiveness and burdening it with extra costs. Here are some of the alarming statistics that show the impact that addictions have:

Most expensive addictions

These are just some of the grim statistics that are reflected across the nations of the world that show the deadly impact of substance abuse and addictions at a personal, family and society level. Given the above statistics, it is no wonder why collectively the governments of the world spend billions of dollars to curb the threat that addictions pose.

Success rates for overcoming addiction have historically been low:

3. Modern Science view

3.1 Causes of addictive behaviours according to modern science

What is the modern science view of the causes of addictive behaviours?

There is no consensus as to the aetiology (cause), prevention and treatment of addictive disorders. A United States government publication, ‘Theories on Drug Abuse: Selected Contemporary Perspectives,’ came up with no less than forty-three theories for chemical addiction and at least fifteen methods of treatment!

As an example of this confusion,

This lack of agreement among experts causes problems with prevention and treatment approaches for many addictive behaviours. (Ref: Department of Applied Health Science, Indiana University, 2003)

So on one hand, we have billion dollar budgets to reduce substance abuse and on the other hand, we have no consensus as to the cause of addictions. The SSRF suggests that if the governments of the world were to focus on the spiritual causes and spiritual treatment of addictions in their research, they would have a greater amount of success in curbing addictions.

4. Spiritual research into addiction

4.1 What does spiritual research into addiction mean?

Spiritual research into addiction means research into the spiritual causes and treatment of addictions by means of an advanced and activated sixth sense (ESP).

4.2 Who can diagnose through spiritual research?

Diagnosis of the specific spiritual cause of addictions is possible only by a spiritually evolved person who can perceive the subtle dimension. By spiritually evolved we mean, a Saint i.e. one who has crossed the spiritual level of 70%. A person with an active sixth sense (ESP) can perceive the root cause, but before attaining a minimum of 60% spiritual level, has to verify the diagnosis from a spiritually evolved person (Saint) above 70% level.

Refer to the following articles for details:

4.3 Type of addictions covered in spiritual research

The scope of spiritual research on addictions conducted by the SSRF encompasses all types of addictions.

4.4 Spiritual research into the causes of addictions

The extent of the ‘known world’ as compared to the ‘subtle spiritual dimension’ is in the ratio of 1: infinity. Through spiritual research methodologies, we can look into the spiritual dimension and ascertain the extent to which it affects our lives. However it is pertinent to add that the subtleties and shades of the various spiritual factors and their interplay can be very complex and intricate. It is for this reason one can at best document upto 80% of the contributing spiritual factors. However even with this limitation, just by taking the spiritual dimension into account, documented spiritual research is far more holistic than conventional research in getting to the bottom of why things happen.

Spiritual research to ascertain the root causes of addictions provided the following results:

Causes of addictions

4.4.1 Spiritual causes of addiction

From the diagram above, you can see that spiritual causes account for 96% of the causes of addiction. The spiritual root causes are divided into possession by either ghosts (30%) or subtle bodies of departed ancestors (70%). Ghosts or subtle bodies of departed ancestors possess people for two main reasons:

  1. To satisfy their own craving for the addictive substance.
  1. To trouble the person by making him an addict

The reason behind 70% of the addictions being due to ancestors is the give-and-take account and the karmic bond between them and their descendants. The give-and-take account that departed ancestors have with their descendants is a subtle (intangible) doorway that they exploit to possess their descendants and satisfy their cravings through them. This could explain why some studies have shown strong hereditary factors influencing addictions.

Refer to the article on, “Why would my departed loved ones and my other ancestors want to give me pain?

Ghosts on the other hand possess any one with a mental weakness or vulnerability. The person does not necessarily have to be one of their descendants. People with multiple addictions can either be possessed by multiple ghosts or just one ghost with multiple addictions.

4.4.2 Physical and psychological causes of addiction

In some few cases, the addiction may begin due to physical reasons such as a person’s intense liking for a certain substance or psychological reasons such as tension, anxiety, depression, etc. However these account for only 4% of all the causes of addiction. It is important to add that in a very short time, ghosts rush in to take advantage of the opportunity of this weakness or vulnerability in a human to affect or possess him. Thus these too become spiritual causes. The mental vulnerability or weakness of a person becomes the entry point for possession. Thus the addiction that may have started with a physical or psychological reason soon escalates into a spiritual one.

In short, only 4% of addictions are initiated due to non-spiritual causes in the person itself and hence only 4% at the most can be overcome by physical and psychological treatment measures.

Refer to “How do ghosts possess a person?

Addictive substances as a cause of addictions

A fact that may surprise our readers is what we found through spiritual research regarding addictive substances being a cause of addictions:

Causes of heroin and cocaine addiction

The high percentage of spiritual reasons as a root cause is one of the reasons for the low success rates of treatment at a physical and psychological level. Physical treatment means rehab with quitting the substance and then treating the withdrawal with chemical medication. Chemicals like methadone are used as safer substitutes for the original abused substance. Psychological treatment includes counselling, formal and/or informal psychotherapy etc. with or without physical treatment.

4.4.3 Addictions from the perspective of destiny or free will

According to the spiritual Path of Action (Karmayoga), all our actions are either destined (not in our control) or due to free will (within our control). As a rule of thumb, in the current era 65% of our actions are destined and 35% are due to free will. However in the case of addictions, the proportion of the destined element is far greater. Major life events like birth, marriage, major accidents and death are completely destined, i.e. the role of destiny is 100%.

The actual proportion of the destined element in a particular addicted person can only be ascertained by people beyond the 70% spiritual level (i.e. Saints) or by those with very highly advanced sixth sense.

Refer to the article “Spiritual root causes of difficulties in life”.

4.5 Why do some people become addicts and others do not?

What makes a certain person more prone to become an addict? There can be many contributing factors to this:

4.6 Why are economically developed societies even more prone to attacks by ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.)?

5. Subtle mechanism of being affected or possessed by ghosts or subtle bodies of the departed ancestors as a root cause of addiction

Spiritual research indicates that almost all acts of possession by a ghost, to prime a person for addiction begin in the womb itself. It is less likely for a ghost to begin priming an individual for addiction in their adult phase. The reason for this is, when in an embryo form, a person is at his most vulnerable state. The more the number of impressions of personality defects from previous births that the conceived embodied soul has, the easier it is for the ghosts/subtle bodies of ancestors to attack.

The following is a detailed account of the subtle mechanism of possession in the womb.

5.1 Steps in development of addiction caused by subtle bodies of ancestors

Step 1: In the majority of cases, the subtle body of the ancestor / ghost attacks the person in the mother’s womb at the embryonic stage. Even prior to conception, at the time of intercourse itself, the subtle body of ancestor enters the body of the mother through her vagina and it impregnates the entire uterus with black energy.

ghost attacks during intercourse for addiction

The spermatozoon uniting with the ovum is also covered with black energy. This impact is minimised with increase in spiritual level, regular spiritual practice and prayer before and if possible even during intercourse. The prayer can be on the following lines:

sex and addictions

Step 2: Then the subtle body of the ancestor / ghost goes on to spread a network of its strands of black energy in the entire uterus. In this way, the embryo is trapped even before it has grown.

ghost attacks on womb for addiction

Step 3: During the growth of the embryo, the subtle body of ancestor / ghost interferes at the time of the development of the subtle cells of the mental sheath and sows the seeds of intense thoughts of addiction. Thus the embryo grows with thoughts of addictions.

Refer to ‘What are we comprised of

Step 4: Then the subtle body of the ancestor / ghost attacks the brain cells of the embryo and makes them conducive to imbibe thoughts of addiction.

Step 5: With further growth of the embryo, the subtle body of the ancestor / ghost merges with the embryo’s body and takes complete possession. As a result as mentioned earlier in the article some children develop addictions in their teenage itself.

Just because a departed ancestor has targeted a certain embryo does not mean that he has to wait for 15-20 years as the person comes of age before he can satisfy his cravings. In the meantime, he can possess other descendants thus satisfying his desires for any substance or thing. What the ancestor does by possessing the embryo and creating a black energy centre for addiction is akin to a rich man acquiring apartments, penthouses or villas in various cities across the globe. He may not even visit a certain apartment for years at a stretch. However having it is a facility that gives him easy and ready entry when he needs to use it.

The reason why an addiction in some people starts earlier as opposed to others is that the ghost waits for an opportune time to actively initiate the addiction. This will depend on a number of factors that increase the vulnerability of the person. These factors include:

5.2 Development of addiction during pregnancy or later due to possession by ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.)

Sometimes, people without strong will power are targeted by common ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.) during their adulthood. After entering their bodies, ghosts fuel their desire for certain things thus making them addicts. However the majority of addicts (i.e. 70% of them) are affected by the thoughts of addictions in their embryonic state itself.

Over a period of a lifetime, a person who has been possessed and addicted to a substance or a thing may begin to like it or at least find comfort in it. When the person dies he may find himself missing the pleasure of the addiction.

After death, this person himself becomes a ghost and enters the body of the next woman from that generation for the fulfilment of his addiction. This intent to harm another person turns him into a ghost and he gets trapped in a vicious cycle of his addiction for many oh his subsequent descendants' lifetimes. This cycle thus continues generation after generation.

Refer to the article on, “What are ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.) and how does a person become one?

6. Suggested principles in the treatment of addiction obtained through spiritual research

6.1 Principle underlying spiritual treatment

Spiritual Healing for addiction

We have explained the meaning of sattva and tama in detail in the article on ‘What are the subtle basic components?

The surest way to increase the sattva component within ourselves is to increase our spiritual practice that conforms to the six basic principles of spiritual practice. It also needs to be done regularly and increased from time to time at a quantitative and qualitative level. With this there is an increase in spiritual level and also a rise in the subtle basic sattva component within the person. Spiritual practice that does not conform to the six basic principles of spiritual practice will have limited or no positive impact on the sattvikta of a person or on his spiritual development. Spiritual practice is the more long-term and sustainable cure for any type of attack by ghosts.

Spiritual remedies provide short-term relief and enable our spiritual practice to be used mainly for spiritual growth that has a holistic effect on our life instead of being spent just on curing addiction.

The best results come when along with spiritual practice we try to increase the sattvikta across all aspects of our life and across all our various layers (e.g. physical, mental, intellectual etc.). The following diagram is a representation of what we are comprised of and an example of what we can do to purify each layer.

subtle body and addictions

More information on how to infuse sattvikta in your life please read “The three subtle basic components and our lifestyle”.

6.1.1 Some generic spiritual treatment for addictions

No two cases of addiction are similar at a spiritual level and it will be difficult to apply a generic remedy to fit all cases where ghosts or ancestors are the root cause of the addiction.

Even so, we have provided a 3 step treatment regime to help people overcome any addiction that they may have.

Note: The following 3 step treatment program is based on using spiritual practice as a tool to overcome addictions. The resulting effects are not only more beneficial but long lasting too.

3 step treatment of addictions
spiritual healing chant addictions
spiritual healing chant ancestors
salt water treatment for addictions

Note:

6.1.2 Mechanism of how it works

By beginning spiritual practice of the 3 step treatment we increase the sattva component within us. This in turn increases our spiritual energy and defence systems. The ghost / departed ancestor who is raja-tama predominant cannot tolerate it and hence is forced to leave. When this happens the person is able to give up the addictive habit immediately.

6.2 Suggested preventive treatment

The 3 step spiritual treatment works both as a treatment to cure addictions and as a preventive mechanism to ensure that addictions do not take root in future. In short, it takes care of addiction formation as well as relapse.

6.3 Critical success factors for the spiritual remedies

6.4 Time needed for a full cure

6.5 Benefits of spiritual treatment over conventional treatments

6.6 Cases where addiction stops all of a sudden with no apparent cause

In a few cases, we find that the addiction stops suddenly without any apparent reason or effort. This is explained at a spiritual level in the following way:

5. Cyriaque overcame addiction to smoking and drinking with the help of spiritual practice alone.

6. Case study on how Annapurna overcame the addiction of chewing tobacco with spiritual practice

Melbourne 8 Nov, Spiritual research exposes true causes of addictions and their treatment

I was addicted to tobacco chewing since 12 years. I tried to give up the habit on many occasions but at the most I would be able to stay away for 15 days. Then I came to know about spiritual practice as per the six basic principles when I came into contact with SSRF. One and half years after starting chanting the Name of my Family deity and Lord Datta, the habit went away completely. Since last one and half years I am totally free of the addiction.
